Choosing Sustainable Palm Oil

Choosing sustainable palm oil and preserving rainforest wildlife habitats was the
focus of a community engagement campaign in the Atlanta Metropolitan area.

Zoo Atlanta, Ford Motor Company Fund, and Project S.N.A.P. partnered on a community engagement program resulting in a giant mosaic mural designed to raise awareness about the importance of choosing sustainable palm oil and conserving our rainforests.

This community wide program provided students and visitors from the Atlanta Metropolitan area with the opportunity to create artwork and write an artist’s statement that would help communicate conservation efforts related to preserving the habitat for the sumatran tiger, orangutan, malayan sun bear, wreathed hornbill, red blood python in the rainforest.

Participants will also be able to see the mosaic mural in the Project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum, and see how their artwork fits into the “big picture” as well as the message that they wrote.

My students loved this project! Thank you for empowering them to make a positive impact through their artwork as they learned about preserving our wildlife and making sustainable choices.

Participants can access the mosaic mural online in the project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum, read and share their artist’s statement, and see how their artwork fits into the “big picture”. The mosaic mural is also on display in the “Featured Programs” in the Project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum. Or, you may visit the finished mural on display at Zoo Atlanta.
