Color a World Without
Type One - "Discover"

Momentum builds as thousands collaborate in Illinois, Georgia
and Michigan to raise awareness about type 1 diabetes.

JDRF Illinois, JDRF Georgia, and JDRF Southeast Michigan, Ford Motor Company Fund, and Project S.N.A.P. partnered together in multi-community engagement initiatives with the theme “Discover”, giving thousands of children and families from the JDRF community and students from local schools, the opportunity to share their hope for a world without type 1 diabetes.  Participants expressed their thoughts and feelings in their artworks and written messages.  The program culminated in the creation of three giant mosaic murals made from all of the artworks that were submitted. The final 4’x6′ mosaic murals were donated to JDRF Illinois, JDRF Georgia and JDRF Southeast Michigan.

As stakeholders in the search for a cure, people living with type 1 diabetes, brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, neighbors and friends all had the opportunity to be part of the “big picture”.

Participants are able to access the mosaic mural online in the Project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum, read and share their artist’s statement and see how their artwork fits in.   The mosaic mural is also on display as part of the  “Featured Programs” in the Project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum.

We feel very empowered that although we are sharing just a little piece of ourselves, when we put it all together we are so huge and it is so amazing to see these artworks being created by all of us together, not just one person, it's all of us participating to help find a cure to type one.

As part of this initiative, thousands of people attending the One Dream Gala in Chicago, the Hope for a Cure Gala in Atlanta and the Promise Ball in Detroit have the opportunity to see the mosaic mural close up and make a charitable contribution to JDRF for the privilege of having the mosaic mural on display in the location of their choice.
