"Celebrating Children's" at
Akron Children's Hospital

Akron Children's Hospital Celebrating Children's Community Mosaic Mural Program,
a celebration of 125 years by nearly 10,000 people across the region.

Akron Children’s Hospital partnered with Project S.N.A.P. on a large scale community engagement program that resulted in the creation of a giant 10′ x 15′ mosaic mural commemorating the hospital’s 125th anniversary.  The mosaic is on display in the new state-of-the-art Kay Jewelers Pavilion.

Nearly 10,000 patients, families, employees and community members helped to create the giant mosaic mural which came to life thanks in large part to a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and gifts from Akrochem Corporation and Kay Jewelers.

The individual artworks in the mosaic depict the theme “Celebrating Childhood,” and were used to create the mosaic mural, which was brought to life by Project S.N.A.P. and children’s author and illustrator Todd Parr.  Every person who created an artwork can find their artwork and exact location in the Project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum.

Members of the community who made a gift to Akron Children’s Hosptial’s Building on the Promise Capital Campaign were also given a unique recognition opportunity on a tile in the mosaic mural.

Being part of the mosaic makes me really happy because i feel happy when I'm giving somebody else joy, so it's like taking a part of my joy and giving it to them. It's a beautiful way to come together and show our support and our love.

Donors and artwork contributors can find their tile online in the Project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum.  Akron Children’s is grateful to those who generously supported this Community Mosaic Mural Program and to all who contributed artworks.
