Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge

The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and the International
Wildlife Refuge Alliance engages in a community-wide initiative.

The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance partnered with Project S.N.A.P. on a community engagement program that resulted in a giant mosaic mural that will be displayed in the new 12,000 square foot Detroit River IWR Visitor Center.

The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge is the only International Wildlife Refuge in North America.  The refuge includes nearly 6,000 acres of islands, coastal wetlands, marshes, shoals, and waterfront lands along 48 miles of Detroit River and Western Lake Erie shorelines.

Members of the community were invited to leave a legacy by creating artwork for this large scale mosaic mural.  Students in schools in the area also had the opportunity to participate in this exciting initiative and add their voice to the “big picture”.
